The third China Language and Economics Forum was hold from August 3, 2012 to August 4, 2012 in Urumchi, China, co-sponsored by the Center for Economic Research and the Center for Language and Economic Research at Shandong University, the China Centre for Linguistic and Strategic Studies at Nanjing University and the School of Foreign Languages at Beihang University; undertaken by the School of Economics and Management at Xinjiang University. More than 40 experts and scholars attended this forum.

After the open ceremony, Professor Shaoan Huang from the Center for Economic Research at Shandong University, Professor Weiguo Zhang from the Center for Language and Economic Research at Shandong University, Professor Mingyou Xiang from the School of Foreign Languages at Beihang University delivered speeches on “Economics of Language and language industry strategy”, “rate of return on Chinese people learn foreign languages”, "new development of game theory and pragmatics” respectively.

Other delegates presented their papers and introduced recent scientific research achievements at the forum. They had a further discussion concerning fundamental theory of Language and Economics , language industry, language consumption, exploitation and protection of minority languages, language services and some significant issues in the language life.

Professor Shaoan Huang made a summary at the closing ceremony. Generally, Language and Economic research team is expanding, the number of related papers and participant organizations are increasing, and the level of research is improving. However, there are still some deficiencies in the research that need to be improved.

A resolution on the establishment of “China Language and Economics Forum” council was adopted at the conference. Professor Shaoan Huang has been elected as the chairman of the council; Professor Yuming Li from Beijing Language and Culture University, Professor Zhongyao Li from Xinjiang University, Professor Daming Xu from Nanjing University and Professor Mingyou Xiang from Beihang University have been elected as the vice chairman; and Professor Weiguo Zhang is the secretary-general of the council.
