The international symposium of Chinese Economists Society was held from June 23, 2012 – June 24, 2012 in Kai Feng, co-hosted by the Chinese Economists Society and Henan University. More than 200 economic experts came together including two Nobel economics prize-winners: Professor James J. Heckman from University of Chicago in the U.S. and Professor Dale Mortensen from Northwestern University in the U.S. The topic they focused on was “leap forward of middle-income trap for the development of China”.
At the beginning of the Seminar, Professor Dale Mortensen, Professor James J. Heckman, Professor Patrick Karl O'Brien and Professor Yongtai Hu from London School of Economics and Political Science made speeches of “Misallocation and TFP: Is there a free lunch?” “Hard Evidence on Soft Skills”, “Mercantilist Foundations for England's Precious, Europe's Delayed and China's Late Transition to Industrial Market Economies” “The Middle-Income Trap: The Next Challenge for the Chinese Economy”.
Then, the symposium was divided into six English groups and three Chinese groups. All experts had a discussion on the topic of “inflation and RMB exchange rates, urbanization and land, countryside and agriculture, environment and growth”.
Four papers from the Center for Economic Research at Shandong University have been selected by the symposium: Professor Jian Wei and An Wang’s “local political structures and provincial fiscal decentralization”, Professor Fengrong Wang and Yanhui Geng’s “estimation and research on the competitiveness of provincial governments in China based on factor analysis”, Professor Fengrong Wang’s “securitization of real estate and economic fluctuations——based on Jump-Diffusion model’s REITs and comparative analysis of stocks”, Professor Zhiping Xie’s “on the Micro-Foundation of Fiat Money’s Nominal Value under the Framework of General Equilibrium”. And first two papers received good feedback of participants.
The objective of the Chinese Economists Society is to promote academic activities and advances in economics and management science in China.
