On December 29, 2003, Dr. Yong - Miao Hong，young economist and professor of economics of Cornell University，did a high-quality speech entitled "From 2003 Nobel Prize in Economics to see the development of financial econometrics"at SDUCER，marked the officially beginning of " Economics Forum of Shandong University"(recent speakers will be Dr.Xinzhu Zhang, Dr. Zhiping Xie, etc.).

Professor Hong mainly introduced the links between financial econometrics and mainstream economics, its latest development and main contributions of relevant contemporary economists, the application of theoretical models, the advantages and disadvantages in the application process and the scope of application，pointing out the direction for us of the future research needs and potential innovation. Finally, the teachers and students and Professor Hong conducted an in-depth academic communication and exchange.

Professor Shaoan Huang，Director of the Center for Economic Research, presided over the meeting. All graduate students of SDUCER and several students from other universities listened to Professor Hong’academic report. Professor Shige Peng，reputable financial mathematician、Dr. Fengrong Wang、Dr. Zhiping Xie also took part in the academic activities and heard the report by Professor Hong.
